Update on Old Spotted Dog pub plans

Any visitor to the Old Spotted Dog Ground will be familiar with the timber framed and weather-boarded pub next door with the same name.
Parts of it date back as far as the 15th century and is believed to have been Henry VIII’s hunting lodge as well as a coaching inn and pub. It is grade II listed and the oldest secular building in Newham.
Sadly since the pub closed in June 2004, it has gradually deteriorated. However, the campaign group Save The Old Spotted Dog continues to campaign on its behalf. They have now been in touch with an update…
The pub was purchased some years ago by a local businessman, and they were granted planning permission during Covid. Since then, the viability of a) restoring the pub and b) building a hotel where the carpark currently is has been reassessed. Next month, the project team are going to be resubmitting the plans to the council to restore the pub but to change the hotel plans to flats, which seemed a more popular solution with those who objected the hotel last time. They are going to be keeping all the historically interesting parts of the pub publically assessible, with more space for the operator to host birthdays, weddings, clubs etc at the same time as a pub/restaurant. As part of the submission to the council, the project team would like to include your views on the Spotted Dog. They have already delivered these to local residents and handed them out on the street. Please find below the link to the questionnaire.
If you would like to submit your thoughts on the new plans for the pub, here’s the questionnaire. The deadline is the 24th August.
